Conkycats is a small, in-home cattery located on a Estero Island between Naples, Florida. and Sanibel Island, Florida. Our cats live with us in our home as pets and companions.
Our cattery is registered with CFA (Cat Fanciers' Association,) TICA (The International Cat Association,) and ACFA (American Cat Fanciers Association.) We actively show in CFA.
It all started with a cat my daughter adopted from an animal hospital she was working in at the time. One of her co-workers had a pure bred Maine Coon that decided to take a walk on the wild side, oops! Hence came a cat named Mr. Kitty. He had a bottle brush for a tail and lynx tips on his ears. He would sit up for his treats and he loved to play in his water bowl, most of the times, he would dip his paw in the water and lick it off. He wasn’t a pure bred Maine Coon but he resembled one right down to his long, uneven shaggy coat.
I was so enamored with this cat, I decided I had to own one or better yet be owned by it. I searched the internet and found a breeder who had a kitten available. We struck up a friendship and I went to visit her at a CFA cat show to see one of her cats she was showing. Showing cats, I had never really heard of such a thing. After I visited her at that show accompanied by my daughter, grand daughter, and my husband, we decided to get 2 litter mates and attend our first show. Well, they each took one final and one ribbon at their first show, and then we were hooked. That was May 2004 and we have been showing ever since then.
We’ve enjoyed showing so much that we wanted to take the next step and breed this wonderful animal. I would like to thank Stephanie Boulter from Tropikoons Maine Coons and Helen Schultz from Trills Maine Coons, and Roxann Rokicki from Velvet Jewels Maine Coons for the opportunity to add their fabulous cats to my cattery. Without them and their confidence in me, none of this would have been possible.
Our goal is to produce healthy, beautiful Maine Coons that conform to the standards (CFA and TICA) with wonderful Maine Coon personalities. Though we enjoy showing our cats and believe it to be an important part of an active breeding program, health and temperament will always be our primary considerations. Before coming into our home and prior to breeding, all our cats test negative for FeLV and FIV. All breeding cats are tested for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) and FHD (Feline Hip Dysplasia.)
Kittens may go to their new homes around 12-14 weeks of age. They will have had a health check-up at the vet and received their first series of vaccinations. Kittens will be available for adoption with a contract (please take sometime to look at our agreement) and health guarantee. Pet kittens should be spayed or neutered at approximately 6 months of age.Kittens are guaranteed Felv/FIV negative and also guaranteed to be free of bacterial diseases and parasites. Usually they have had their first set of immunizations for Feline Rhinotrachetis-Calici-Panleukopenia at 8 weeks and another at 11 weeks, been given a wormer and certified healthy by a veterinarian. I do not recommend the Feline Leukemia or the FIP vaccine, neither is necessary for indoor only cats and my Guarantee is null and void if these immunizations are given. Kittens are using a litter box and are trained to a scratching post or tree for scratching. All of our kittens are sold as Indoor only and declawing is prohibited. Please view my Pet Contract and Health Guarantee.Disclaimer: Screening for HCM and FHD is currently the recommended method to aid in reducing the incidence of these genetic conditions in our cats. Breeders cannot guarantee that their cats will not have either of these conditions. However, Conkycats can guarantee that we are dedicated to screening our breeding stock in a continued effort to produce healthy and sound Maine Coon cats to the best of our ability.
